Hallyu! – Hallyu! The Korean Wave shows the vibrant and diverse popular culture of South Korea. Since its emergence in the late1990s, thehallyu phenomenon - which translates as "the Korean wave" - has spread to all corners of the world. The exhibition sheds light on the genesis ofhallyu and its connections with traditional Korean art as well as its global influence on pop culture, cinema, fashion and media art.
From K-pop costumes and famous dance choreographies to unforgettable movie props, music video clips, beauty trends and fashion, Hallyu! The Korean Waveis a dazzling kaleidoscope of South Korean art and cultural history. Works by media art pioneer Nam June Paik, a recreated set from the Oscar-winning film Parasite, the Google Art Dance Room, where visitors can learn and dance along to K-pop moves under the guidance of well-known choreographers, or contemporary interpretations of the iconic garment hanbok are just some of the highlights that will delight the exhibition audience.
Following major public successes at the Victoria and Albert Museum London, the Museum of Fine Arts Boston and the Asian Art Museum San Francisco, Museum Rietberg is the only venue in Europe to present this spectacular exhibition conceived by the Victoria and Albert Museum.
