When we talk about influential stylists in modern jazz, one should not be missed: the Norwegian saxophonist Jan Garbarek approached Nordic folklore with an ascetic aestheticism and quickly found an unmistakable sound language. Influenced at a young age by John Coltrane, he played in Keith Jarrett's European quartet from 1974 to 1979 before absorbing new musical influences through encounters with musicians from other cultures, be it in collaboration with Egberto Gismonti, Anouar Brahem or, as is currently the case, with the hot-blooded rhythm -Juggler Trilok Gurtu. Of course, his internationally celebrated recordings and performances with the Hilliard Ensemble will also be unforgettable. Six years after his last Zurich concert in the Tonhalle Maag and exactly 20 years after his last concert in the Kongresshaus - back then with Eberhard Weber and Marilyn Mazur - the magical hymnist from Norway returns to the beautifully renovated Kongresshaus Zurich on May 11, 2024.
